Tomas Cvancara is trying to secure a permanent move to Celtic, after he admitted his interest on The Celtic FC Podcast, and the Hoops should be all over the deal.
Speaking on the podcast, he said:
“I want to prove myself and prove why I came. Maybe, if I’m going to be good enough, show the board and everyone that they have to sign me for the future. This is my goal. I will just try to do my best.
I would say that I want to focus on the club, that I want to prove that I am good enough, that I deserve to be here, that I want to score goals, make assists, and help the team.
This is, for me, the closest steps in my career, and if [the Czech Republic] call me up, they call me up, if they didn’t, they didn’t, but I want to prove that I am good enough to be at Celtic.”
It feels good to hear a striker be so eager to prove himself in the hoops. Too often, it seems as though players give up and don’t want to give their all, but we may have struck gold in that regard with Cvancara.
Since joining the club on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach in January, he has been a brilliant option up front for Martin O’Neill. On his debut against Hearts, he managed to get an assist during a good performance, and against Falkirk, he opened his account in Glasgow with a goal. He was also the assister for Julian Aurajo’s massive goal to secure victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
He has been involved in massive moments, and there are surely more to come. Even when he doesn’t score, his movement is often a highlight of the game, and he gets himself into brilliant positions. He was unlucky during the Stuttgart game as it was an awful team performance, meaning that he didn’t get any service that he could’ve used to change the game.
Cvancara will be happy that there is already a buyout clause in his loan deal. It was reported by German outlet Kicker that Celtic will have the option to buy him for a fee of around €8 million.
Should Celtic trigger the clause?
With his performances so far, a lot of supporters would be delighted to see the striker sign permanently. It appears that Kelechi Iheanacho could be on the way out in the summer, leaving only Junior Adamu as another striker. He is also only on loan, and there is a good chance that he will return to his club. If the Hoops want to ensure they have at least one striker going into pre-season, Cvancara seems like the best option.
Of course, we can’t just sign players because we need options. If we do that, we end up with deals like Benjamin Arthur, who has not made a single appearance for Celtic since joining from Brentford on deadline day.
Celtic are already looking for other options up front, with interest in young striker Ali Avila expected to turn into an offer at the end of the season. It’s unlikely Avila would be chucked in straight away, so if Cvancara continues to perform, we’d say the chances of a permanent deal being struck are very high.
