What Motherwell boss said about Rangers in ‘cynical’ claim

Jens Berthel Askou has claimed Rangers took a “cynical” approach to last night’s draw with his Motherwell side.

The teams shared the points after Stephen Welsh pounced late on to earn a 1-1 draw for the ten-man hosts, who had Lukas Fadinger sent off after Nico Raskin had given Rangers an early lead.

Askou felt that was the least they deserved as he praised his team’s “sensational” performance. But he felt Rangers resorted to cynical tactics to try to stop them.

He told Sky Sports: “It was an absolutely sensational performance from start to finish.

“We dominated the game in so many ways, even with one man down we dominated and looked like a team who wanted to win the game.

“I thought our intensity and speed of play was outstanding and it caused a ton of problems for Rangers out there.
“We didn’t let frustration take over, we stuck in it and adjusted a few things at half-time and knew there would be chances in the second half.”

Addressing Fadinger’s sending off, the Austrian didn’t seem to have too many complaints but praised his side for avoiding a red card until now.

“Then Lukas gets sent off, and it’s our first red card.” Askou said.

“Right now it’s only Falkirk who haven’t had a red card, and we were the second last to get it even though we play with extreme intensity and aggressiveness.

“If you ever have to take one, it’s like that.

“He’s doing everything he can to stop [Moore], he’s unlucky that he catches him just above the ankle and I hope he’s ok.

“The intensity of the tackle was not worse than many of the other tackles we received.

“He’s just a little bit unlucky that he catches him five inches off the ground.”
